Cash, Cards and ATMs in the Philippines
Cards are useful, but cash is still the quiet thing that keeps island days moving.
The short version
Bring more cash than you would for a city trip, especially before ferries, island-hopping days and smaller islands.
Where cards work
Hotels, malls and larger restaurants often accept cards. Smaller food spots, drivers, terminals, markets and tours may not.
ATM reality
Some islands have limited machines, machines can be empty, and withdrawal fees can add up. Take out cash before moving to a smaller island.
